NICE. Addiction; An Acceptable Alternative to Quitting

So NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) have decided that Nicotine addiction is OK, as long as you don't actually smoke a cigarette!?

Don't see them sanctioning Heroin addiction as long as the addicts take it using a certain method, do you?

I do wonder what intelligence there is behind it, when both NICE, and the NHS can blatantly ignore a method that works, Allen Carr's EasyWay (a truth to which this smoke-free individual of nearly 3 years, who used to smoke between 20 & 30 a day, can testify!).

Surely this approach is a cop-out.  How they can justify this under the banner of an Institute which uses the terms "Health" and "Care Excellence" in its very title?

Watch this space for an open letter...

  1. Interesting that you compare heroin addiction and nicotine addiction.
Let's throw in food addiction too and compare which is the worst for you (and society).

I don't see a great problem with a nicotine addiction other than it means you will always potentially be a smoker. E-Cigs have to be better for you than real ones especially if it’s all regulated and tested. (Not sure it is!?)

Personally, I think you're best to get off nicotine all together if you can, but if you can't then smoking an E-cig is probably the next best thing. Why not have one little addiction, one that's far more healthy than a real cigarette, a hit of smack or a few too many big macs – If it’s an improves you’re quality of life (health and financially) then it’s a no brainer. It could always be the first step to being nicotine free.

  2. Thanks Pete :-) I do understand your point, however food is not an addiction. Food is something that sustains every living thing on this planet, be it humans, animals or plants. It is not something you 'train' your body to accept so the debate for over-eating and obesity is a separate point.
I use Heroin addiction as a comparison because it is not something that a human being, or any living creature, needs to survive... like nicotine, alcohol, and any other "drug" it is completely unnatural to need/crave it.
The main point of this, however, is the fact that there is a method out there which is far superior to NRT therapies (that includes E-Cigs) and has a higher success rate for a complete nicotine cessation than NRT, which is being completely ignored by NICE et al. My question is Why?!
